Its structure is matrix. Not taxonomic .

The ATIC terminology is structured in three ontological layers : structuring, basic and molecular / atomic elements.

Structuring elements

The structuring elements in ATIC derive from the interpretive conceptualization of the nursing meta-paradigm constructs, defined by Jacqueline Fawcett in the 80s of the 20th century : person, health, environment and nursing.

The interpretive conceptualization of the meta-paradigm constructs carried out by Dr. Juvé-Udina , and published in various scientific articles in 2012, proposes a re-conceptualization that illustrates the articulation (structure) of ATIC terminology and ontologies. For practical purposes, the use of ATIC structuring elements in healthcare information systems, for the representation of the care provision process and its results, allows grouping and facilitates the ordering and location of elements and their relationships.

The structuring elements of ATIC have different levels of abstraction and can be used in a matrix way and include: Dimensions, Categories, Components, Metaconcepts and Other secondary groupers.

Metaconcepts	High-intermediate abstraction grouping constructs. Used to typify conceptual or thematic fields. They can act as nodes of nursing knowledge and points of connection between different terminological systems or standardized languages. They can act as interdisciplinary knowledge nodes and link points with classifications or reference vocabularies from other disciplines .
